new car?

Hi guys, could really do with buying a new car. I have a budget of £3000, maybe £4000 if the car is imaculate. I want something in the region of a 1.4 - 1.8, as im only 19 nothing to powerful as the insurance is always sky high! Own a corsa 1.2 at the moment. Have been offered a corsa 1.8 SRI irmscher for £2000, done 97000 but spoke to my mechanic and he says i will regret it because of the fuel costs. Ive only ever owned my corsa so i am unsure of what to get next, need some advice! Thanks

Skoda Fabia VRS, group 9 insurance and really good MPG as its a VAG diesel. They are at the top end of your budget though.
That Corsa SRI is only 2 grand so the money you save on the car you can spend that little bit more on fuel. I cant see it being that bad.

How about a modern classic like a Mk1 Golf GTi or a Fiat X1/9 or Peugeot 205 GTi

For your budget, you can pick up a really decent example of any of these. Your insurance will be reasonable on a classic limited miles policy, join an owners club and stand out from all the crowd.

Is the 1.8 that much worse on fuel? How many miles a year do you cover in general.

I ask because I was going to get a diesel powered car because I was worried about fuel costs. Changed my mind rapidly when I realised how little mileage I do.

So instead of a 1.9tdi, I have a 5.7 v8.
