Temporary insurance for visitor from overseas.

I have a friend visiting from California in a couple of weeks and would like to arrange temporary cover on the Elise for him to drive it. He is English, having emigrated some dozen or so years ago, is over 40 and has held a full UK licence from 17 and is no stranger to performance vehicles of many flavours.

I asked my own insurer to add him as a named driver but they said no, because he is not a UK resident. I have tried tempcover.com but they specifically exclude US and Canadian residents. I have tried ecar but they require UK residence too. I have also tried a couple of others but they are not interested in talking unless I am already insured with them.

I really didn't expect this to be so hard.

Does anyone know of someone that will cover a US resident for a week on a car that I own and insure? I only need third-party cover as I am happy to take the risk on the rest... not that there is any.

Ask your friend if HIS insurance company will insure him on your car whilst he is over here.....

A friend of mine in LA WAS able to get me insured on HIS car when I visited, so maybe his US insurance company will insure him over here on yours.
