Whining noise when wheel loaded

I'm having a problem with my car. When I am driving straight, or turning to the right, I hear a whiny type noise from the front left side.

I am guessing this is wheel bearing but want to make sure. Its been happening a while and doesn't seem to have got any worse at all. Basically if the wheel / joint is loaded with the weight of the car, it moans.

Last year I had a split CV boot on that corner, but I thought they knocked rather than whined when they were fecked?

Speed makes no difference, car is 99 Mk2 Mondeo hatchback.

probably wheel bearing, sometimes get a metallic squeal from a CV joint if its totally dry!

My car had been 'doing it a while' and finally let go when on a bit of a hoon, suffered some rather bad understeer feelings on the limp home!

Sorry for the thread hijack, but mine has the same sort of noise from the left front when going around a left bend, so unloaded...is this likely the be the wheel bearing too?

Jack it up and check for play, see if it moves freely ect, any noises while turning by hand?
