Another customer gets tucked up by local car supermarket!!!

A good mate of mine has recently bought(2 weeks ago)an 08plate Vectra Exclusive CDTi with 40k on it for £4995 from a well known Car Supermarket near to where I live
Now they have an awful reputation for aftersales, told him don't buy it you'll regret it but he went ahead with the purchase
On sun morn was driving the car and the n/s/r coil spring snapped and in doing so blew out the n/s/r tyre,luckily he had breakdown cover so the car was taken back to his house
When he got home rang the car sales to tell them what had happened and their reply was "bring it in tomorrow and well have a look at it" my mate said can't drive the car and their reply was " well we cant help you then"
Yesterday went to look at the car it's a real dog, as well as the spring breaking found loads of faults with it including engine light on and the air con pipes are missing also all the break discs need replacing,now I work in the motor trade myself and have seen many of their cars before and nearly all of them are sheds what beats me is how are they allowed to still be trading
What I want to know is should my mate get the car inspected and go to trading standards or just go straight to trading standards

hi dan - i expect these are the people we were talking about at the meet.good luck with trading standards - he may do better if he can get a report confirming the car was unroadworthy at the time of sale as that can be a criminal offence.

Doh, forgot its too young for a mot, the discs all have a minimum thickness, get a local garage to measure them with a micrometer, might be possible through a gap in the alloys, if they are of an open spoke design. Is it a massive lip?. - AL*

Isn't an 08 plate still undre manufacturers warranty for the spring?
Quite.Same goes for the warning lights. Take to Vauxhall and get them to fix under warranty.
Unless he really has bought a dodgy car that's clocked, no service history etc.
I find it hard to be sympathetic though, his mate in the trade has advised him and he's ignored it.

I bought a brand new Vectra Exclusiv in 2007 for £10,000 OTR
£5k for a 2.5year old £10k car with 40,000miles seems a bit steep for me.
Also check for Power steering leaks, broken electric mirrors, handbrake not working, boot that doesnt shut, coolant leaks, snapping driveshafts, engine management warning lights etc etc
That was the list of problems I had in the first month of owning one....
I feel sorry for your mate, hes been had!
