Car Damaged - Registration/Owner details

My car was damaged today while parked at work.

The damage was thankfully relatively minor (wing mirror), but the culprit drove off without leaving any details. I have a registration number provided by a witness of the incident, and have previously heard on these forums that it's possible to track the owner of the vehicle via the DVLA?

I'd like to contact them personally before going to the police/insurance companies to see if they'll reimburse me for the damage. Mainly because I can't be bothered with the hassle, but also the damage is relatively minor, and not worth claiming for.

Any advice?

Exactly the same thing happened to my brother in Tesco last week.
He contacted police, gave the details and he now has his car sorted.
(He did have a fair bit of damage though)

maybe that's the way to go then...
i just don't want to cause any more trouble than necessary...especially as the bloke was in a lorry, he might not have realised he'd done it? i'd rather give them the chance to rectify first?

How to get information from DVLA records.

Check MID first to check the car is insured.

Then report the matter to your insurers and let them contact his insurers.
