Friend of mine bought a "cheap A8" for £4500. In 8 months of ownership it had cost him another £3000...
It won't be to everyone's tastes, but I loved it.

It had a ABS warning light on, and holes in the exhaust. It was fixed and put through MOT for about £200 ran for a year and about 12000 miles before it started knocking and then the alternator packed up then the tiptronic started playing up. He just got £450 scrap!!
Oh it had full S8 suspension too (and badges ) looked and drove great in green. Looked like it was worth a hell of a lot more.
They are a lot of car for the money.

My A8 was a money pit. Yep lots of barge for the money but the smugness will soon evaporate once expensive bits start lunching themselves; no matter how desirable it is, you can't escape the fact that it's 16 years old. But, as reported above you may be lucky and you've got a bargain barge for Ford Ka money. Incidentally I didn't think the A8 drove anything like as well as the 728 I had later (which was also a money pit!). Bangernomics. Not for the faint hearted.

I went to an A8 breakers in Harrogate, and spent the day with them upgrading the interior of mine to Sport spec. £500 plus my old interior saw the black leather Recaros, plus BOSE, rear blind, everything down to the carpets and glove box.Lacks the rear blind, which is essential toy factor and it's a dull colour but I'd say, all things considered, walking away with that for £2000 straight you'd have had a deal.
A day well spent, those seats are such a nice place to be.
