Extended warranty cost

Father is looking for a new (used) car.

Most likely it will be the Merc CLS 500. Very nice and all that 2005ish models.

Anyway, it appears most/all used car dealers offer a warranty but the limit is £1000 per claim (multiple claims allowed). Great if lots of relatively small problems but not so great if the engine goes or gearbox etc.

Anyone know how much Merc will charge for something that has higher claim limit. Are there any other companies that will provide anything good without costing the earth.

When I got my S2000 (private sale) I was able to get a warranty from Honda that didn't have a silly £1k claim limit. It was only £300 p/a with breakdown cover etc.

If anyone knows about any major issues with the CLS500, let me know also

You might get a better response in the MB section!My tier 1 warranty on the AMG costs about #800 per year and AFAIK has no upper limit eg heard of 30k for a new engine. My warranty has paid for itself many times over.HTH.
