New super highway from Southampton to Scotland...

With congestion on UK roads at an all time high, plans to build a new super highway from Southampton to Scotland were given the go ahead today.
The super highway is necessary to cater for 21st century traffic levels that are unsuprisingly grinding to a halt on roads that were built for 1970's traffic levels.
There will be 6 lanes in both directions and cross sections West to East below the M4 and above the Midlands.
Work is expected to begin in May 2011 and last for a decade. Plans to involve the long term unemployed and prison inmates in the construction are expected to help with the cost.
Friends of the Earth said this morning "getting Britain moving again will be disasterous for the climate, we only have 7 years to save the planet".

Fantastic! Imagine the progress that can be made in L1, whilst everyone, but everyone else is bumper to bumper and absolutely chokka at 85mph in L5 & L6.And WTF would the MLM's do? with a choice of four lanes?

Also strange that with me working for a leading Engineering company, that does alot of work with the Highways Agency, and most definitely would have caught wind of it, even if just in passing conversation, has never heard of it. It will be perfect for The Proclaimers. They can happily walk 500 miles to Scotland and then walk 500 more back "The Proclaimers" Official Site!
It would be far better to have better east-west routes then more nouth-south routes. I know Londoners are fine- M2, M20, M4 etc but for the rest of us, going east-west involves:
