Funny sight on the motorway

Was travelling along the M4 this afternoon when an E43 3-series pulled up behind me going very quickly. Pulled in to let him past when I could and he booted it past up to well over the ton. I was able to see that it was a 330i as he went past (or was at least badged as one, it also had a stick on 'M' badge).
Now that on its own was unsurprising, but following it was a Mk3 Golf 5-door, slightly lower than standard on steels with black smoke pouring out of the exhaust. The only obvious modification being a sticker saying "Smokin'". He was glued to the bumper of the beemer and had obviously been giving him hassle for a while.
Now im not a diesel fan boy, but I was impressed and really would like to know what had been done to it. By the way it was pumping out black smoke im guessing it was a standard boost and fuel screw mod, or whatever the equivalent on the older VW TDi engine is.
I actually had a chuckle to myself as they went past, the rate it was gathering speed was really something to behold, properly unexpected!

I sold some seats to a lad recently and he was running a mk2 caddy van that he was going to do some mods to. Bigger injectors was his starting
point followed by a boost increase.
He was aiming for about 170hp, with a load of torque, from a 1.9td.

Not necessarily. Say 80% of the diesel is going to combust, you need to overfuel by 20% to get the maximum power from the engine. If you can get the air / fuel mixing perfectly then you can reduce the smoke but if not you'll get more power while overfuelling.Adam205 said:
