Video: 'New' Stratos On The Move
German parts supply giant reveals his new creation on video
The next step in the intriguing saga that is the apparent re-birth of the Lancia Stratos is here - the first moving images of the resurrected Ferrari-powered rally legend.
Accompanying the shots of the shakedown test of the 'New Stratos', as it appears to have been dubbed, is an interview with Michael Stoschek, automotive parts supply bigwig and bankroller.
Sadly, fluent German is not an entry requirement to PH Towers, so we're not exactly sure what Herr Stoschek is saying in the video.
So, unless somebody suggests otherwise, we'll just assume he's saying something along the lines of: "Here's my new car, the 'New Stratos'. It's based on a Ferrrari 430 Scuderia engine and shortened chassis. Ain't it lovely? Not sure why some other chap is driving it, mind you..."
Discussion
I like it, and it's quite an achievement: unlike the recent Ford GT and Lamborghini Miura concept this Stratos looks indeed like a continuation Stratos, with senseable 2010 Ferrari tech underneath.
Funny odd thing is Jason Castriota - SAAB since this June - did the design, so I guess not a Pinnin Farina but a Bertone badge will be on this Lancia.
Castriota did a few Fcars, and of course the Glickenhaus P4/5 one off.
IYAM: this Stratos could well be a hit.

here's the new stratos on a go-cart track, normally much too tight for a car
it's been developed privately by this bloke Michael Stoscnik? and his son Maximillian, nice hobby
"Ive driven hundreds of cars, merc gullwing etc, - the stratos never had a successor and I think it deserved one
I have less work to do now and have time to indulge my hobbies
he has a 'real' stratos, it's one of his favourites, built this for him and his son to drive
etc etc ferrari engine ...7 years thinking about it, 2 years building it, hopefully ready in Nov
it will do at least 300kph/180 mph but handling is the main thing
won't say what it's cost him
maybe not unique, possible small run of cars - for a big price

No I agree, I'd like to congratulate the developer for managing to make a Ferrari V8 sound terrible.
And what's with the go-Kart track? I mean everyone must remember the original Stratos, such a short wheel base made it an absolute nightmare to drive round, handling was insane (except in the hands of a world class rally driver) and I'm not sure this is going to be any different. Maybe the go-kart track is to make it appear to handle well, but on such a short tight track it can't go fast enough to get in trouble.
One things for sure, with Ferrari brakes and engine it is going to cost a shed load of money, so it had better be amazing or it's a flop IMHO.

Are you sure he's saying he's driven them? Sounds like he's saying that there are many followers of other of classic cars but Stratos has had no new editions. Anyway, my German is very rusty and it's a minor point. Great job translating it!

Sounded a bit rubbish.
Umm... I tend to disagree. My guess is, they've tuned it to make it sound pretty much exactly like the original Stratos, which I - among others - like to think of as one of the best sounding rally cars of all time. It doesn't sound much like a Ferrari anymore, true, but is that necessarily such a bad thing? Imagine that mid-range howl and growl on a rally stage, short throttle blips to balance the car through a turn, and you get what they were doing with the engine note.Chris
PS: Cpl_Payne, you're right, he says that there are successors to lots of iconic cars of the past, including the Fiat 500, Mercedes Gullwing etc.; he doesn't actually imply that he's driven or owned all of those. Although I'm sure he could afford it.
"recently entered final stages of development, including extensive testing at Fiat's Balocco facility"...
"development team (headed by ex-F1 driver Tiago Monteiro)"
Body is entirely carbonfibre car weighs 1240kg (versus 1348 of the Scuderia) with equal front/rear distribution. Power-to-weight 413bhp per ton.
Here's the bad bit. They might build another 25, rumoured to cost as much as £600,000 a pop.

That's it, thanks! I confused followers with successors.PS: Cpl_Payne, you're right, he says that there are successors to lots of iconic cars of the past, including the Fiat 500, Mercedes Gullwing etc.; he doesn't actually imply that he's driven or owned all of those. As for people complaining that it sounds rubbish - I quite like how it sounds which is probably not surprising considering that the chassis and the engine come from a Ferrari. The video doesn't say which one but I don't think I'm wrong to assume it's basically a Ferrari-based kit car.
