Hello petrol, bye bye diesel

After 6 years of owning diesel cars i've finally taken the plunge and bought my first petrol one (the mileage I currently do doesn't really justify a diesel). I'm chopping in my horrible 2005 1.9cdti Astra for a late 2007 Mazda 3 2.0i sport with 20k on the clock (hopefully a good choice by PH standards 
).
To some people, owning a petrol car is natural and easy to do. For me it's quite a change. I'm going from the 'comforting' noise of a smokey oil burner chugging away in the engine bay, to literally no noise at all (which makes you wonder if the engine is still running).
I'm changing the way I drive so that I use more than 3000 rpm before I change gear. And I'm having to make a mental note about using the green pump at the petrol station, not the black one.
One of the hardest habits to get out of though is when you start the car. I'm so used to turning the key and waiting for the little light rings to go out that i'm sure i'll do it on the Mazda to begin with.
What I am liking about a petrol, however, is the fact that I don't have any diesel turbo lag anymore and the noise the car makes is quite nice (it's not a growly V8 or anything like that, but its ok). The performance also seems quite good.
Economy wise, I know a petrol isn't as good a diesel. But to be honest, I haven't found the Astra diesel to be brilliantly economical anyway.
So, maybe partly due to the PH influence I've decided to leave derv behind. I know the car I am buying isn't a GTI or an M Sport or anything like that, but i'm excited about my first foray into the world of unleaded.
P.S. If Mazda 3's are dreadful cars please let me know. I don't pick the car up until Saturday! And, will I be disappointed by petrol in about 6 months?
