£4K good 40-70 Any Help Please Thanks

Hi, I been thinking about getting a new car as my current one keep breaking on me. Im looking to spend a maximum of 4k on the car.

Im really after advice for a car which is reliable but can also Pull when needed. Ive been looking possible at a 2003-2005 St220. Anyone got one? It seems to suit my Ideas down to a tee. Comfortable, and car go like bugger when needed.

Im looking really for maybe a Sub 9 Sec 0-60 and a good 50-80 Pull for accelerating as where i live I have to pull out on to a very very busy 70mph dual carridgeway with a non existanst slip road. Im not to fussed on the age of the car as long as will last a good few years realiability wise. Apart from the ST220 which is quite a big cruiser there isnt any cars i can think of? I would consider a car of Any size. Road Tax Etc isnt an issue. Has anyone got any other cars that i could investigate at all as im at a loose end. Ta

Maybe a Saab 9-5 HOT Aero. Rapid 40-70 acceleration and within budget.

To be honest £4k on any fast car is a bit of a punt if you ask me and at least it has German quality going for it.

Thanks for all the responces! The ones which have caught my eye so far have been the Saah 9-5, Volvo V70 and Passat def. Im not nessercaiarly looking for the top of the range model just something that is still decent, would consider a smaller car happilly.

These sort of cruisers such as v70 passat mondeo etc at what milleage do they usually start developing problems relating to wear? thanks again.

I've just bought a Volvo S60 T5 that was around your budget, and it certainly ticks the boxes - 6.5-ish to 60, very strong in-gear performance and good propects for long-term reliability.

Not as sharp as the Mondeo dynamically, but usefully quicker and easily remapped if you want more.
