Australian Speeding Tickets...

Hi to everybody.

I need a bit of advice.... whilst cruising around New South Wales, Australia, I have managed to pick up three minor speeding tickets which I refuse to pay. I return to England on 4th October 2010 and will be coming back to Australia sometime later that month for a further five weeks. My question is; will my unpaid speeding tickets hamper my return to or exit from Australia? Does anybody know how long it takes before such traffic offences are logged with immigration, if at all? If this was to be logged, would this apply in every state or would I just be blacklisted in New South Wales?

I would appreciate any advice and would like to hear from people with a similar experience. Thanks for your help!

You go to a foreign country and break their laws & refuse to accept the standard fines which you have decided somehow don't apply to you; and then you want to know if they'd be happy to see you again?

They'll be about as happy as you would be for an Australian to wander into your house, drink your beer and steal your TV I should think!

Well, Carlos, I got a parking ticket in Sydney. Pretty much the day before I left. At the time I worked for a large software consulting firm with its own lawyers and I went and got some advice. The advice was: "Pony up the fifty bucks if you ever, ever want to visit Australia again."

So I paid up (had to use a credit card from the UK so it was some effort to do it).

Now I can't tell if it would have gone wrong or not but the next time I waltzed through immigration I had no trouble.

I'm told they can and do stop you...

Or maybe all the systems just won't hook up. Or maybe they will. Do you really want to take the chance?

OP, imagine, on returning, a customs officer pulling on a pair of rubber gloves. Can you imagine that? Now decide whether paying the fine is a good idea or not.
