Nah.

They can't make nough 458 Italias at 200k a pop.

The Veyron is over rated. I've been in one. Very fast but not all that. People are realising they're a bit boring and selling them after a few weeks.

The purchase price is one thing, the running costs are something else and some of these people are waking up to how much these cars cost to run even if doing 4000 miles a year.

Strange they quote it as the cheapest in the world, I've heard of at least one offered at a considerable amount less than that. It might not have been advertised though.

Won't they make quite a good investment for someone?

Very limited numbers made, a few will undoubtedly be written off over the years (unfortunately) and it's widely known to be the fastest car in the world.

It wasn't fastest for long, they've even beaten that record with their own newer car.

Never really liked them myself, lots of power = high top speed... hardly shocking is it. For something costing so much money, the design leaves me cold.

Tyres are a killer £11k a set and they do not last long....

The Mc F1 could be plugged in anywhere in the world to check what is wrong with it & IIRC service was of the order of £35k so an even more advanced car could eclipse this.

I wonder if 363 of PH put up the cash together thats a mere £2.8k you each have one day a year to use it. Servicing costs are shared Tyre tread depth is measured by the one giving the car & confirmed by the one accepting it.

Possibly fewer people as it will need servicing but you get the gist of it.

Then again... P1 super car club is what £10k a year... and you get 30 odd days or 15 days car choice dependant... hmmm 1 day in the fastest ever + running costs v DBR9/Gallardo/Murci/458/599 etc...hmm thats a hard one.

I think this is oversimplifying what the Veyron achieved, the aerodynamics at 250mph plus are incredible, how do you deal with cooling for example, how do you build tyres that are as happy at 60mph as they are at 250mph, how do you make such a car comfortable and useable. How do you create running gear that can cope with 1000bhp day after day?

The Bugatti Veyron does little to stir my soul but it is an astonishing engineering achievment.

Who am I to comment with two cars worth £40k, but from what I've read on the subject I expect owners are buying Veyrons, realising how stupidly expensive they are to run, and then selling them again straight away once the novelty's worn off. Something like a Pagani Zonda or Ferrari Enzo will hold its value or even appreciate and cost a fraction of the amount to run (Evo did a detailed comparison last year), plus it may even be more fun to drive.

I'll have the type 35 over the huge, ugly piece of metal, thanks.

I know an Enzo owner who has actually ended up BEING PAID to drive it, because it's appreciated so much!

The Veyron is a stunning engineering achievement, yes. However, I think the tales of one owner transporting his car to a good driving road and then helicoptering in for an hour's playtime sum it up for me. If you're treating a car like that, why not transport your 1982 William F1 to a good driving circuit, helicopter in and drive that instead? Much faster, more exciting and cheaper in the long run (seriously!). I think the Veyron is an amazing achievement, but perhaps designed for an alternative reality where money is easier to come by and the roads are empty with no speed limits. A 997.2 TT probably gives 90% of the pleasure for a 1% of the outlay, and if you want something special, you can spend the change on a historic racer or a fancy girlfriend.

Tyres that cost £30,000 a set should be able to drive up walls.

I still think all this talk of engineering is exaggerated. You make it comfortable and usable by weighing it down with luxury and 4WD. It's fast, powerful and well made, but I'd have more respect for their achievements if it was more of an engineering marvel by getting to high speeds without such power. By using clever aero, surely that technology could filter down into the rest of the VW group range, theoretically.

I agree though that 1000bhp everyday would be hard on all components, but how many of them do high mileage? The gearbox is amazing, I cant deny that, I remember seeing a cutaway of it once, it was the best thing about the car IMO hehe

I've never been in one but it's not a car I'll ever aspire to.

It's not a real type 35 though is it? It's a recreation jobby using some original Bugatti parts.

The gearbox is a great achievement, but I've also got huge respect for the engine and the whole package. It must be extremely hard to make a car with 1000bhp that will sit in a traffic queue or bumble round town without overheating, and also sit in a compact car where the drivers can chat and listen to the radio, instead of wear ear defenders and fireproof suits. Don't forget that no standard production car has got anywhere near that sort of power output - in the past it's been the preserve of highly fragile and noisy race engines.
