Later swapped to a 7 Series Beemer - nice too.

I thought the Popemobile's were Range Rovers.

You'd have thought they'd have made one specially for his visit - bit of publicity perhaps?

Looks like he has some sort of German tie up with Merc - with that fleet of vans following him.

he will be getting shipped around by our security services in the cars normally reserved for our dignitaries. The security bill for his nice little jolly is many many millions footed by UK taxpayer, and we basically had no choice. It is all over the news, and I am sure most people that become aware of it would be outraged, but if the government and police had their way it would be shoved under the carpet. Consequently there is a "Nope to the Pope" protest on Saturday starting at hyde park corner at 1.30pm.

dodgy number plate on the (merc?) popemobile in Edinberg though - one for Real Rubbish Chav Plates, I'm sure.

Previous Popemobiles were based on the G-Wagen, the latest version is based on the M-Class. I consider this definitive proof that the Pope isn't as cool as he used to be.

He means the Queen. Not all of her outfits are stupid- she saves those for when she's in parliament.

I'm shocked that to attend the masses, people have to PAY. The Catholic Church is fantastically wealthy, it's the biggest landowner in the world* you would have thought that they could spring for the cost of having the devoted turn up.

If Mr.Pope actually gave a flying feck about the poor people on the planet, he would say no, no, don't bother, god will protect me, give the £12 in benefits to those in need!

I'd rather see the £12million spent on looking after our troops....

Guess the RangeRovers are too old now, he wanted a change.

Other Cars (BMW 7-series, Jaguar XJ) will be our dignitary cars (part of the £12million cost I guess!)
