Manufacture warranty question

Have just agree a price on a private sale, and will be picking car up next week. Is a BMW and has 3 year warranty from new, and car is 22 months old, so 14 months remaining.

I have never bought a car with an existing warranty on it before. Normally if buying private, and car of some value, I would consider an AA/RAC comprehensive check, knowing that there is some comeback to them if the vehicle has a fault that they have not spotted.

However with the warranty this car has, am I better just HPI'ing the car, saving the rest of the money, and rely on the warranty?

You get the remainder of the warranty, so I wouldn't personally get an AA check. Just the usual diligence to look for accident damage, HPI for finance etc. Dont forget that HPI isnt proof the car hasnt had some repairs. If you call BMW they will confirm spec and your local dealer may also confirm the car has been serviced on time etc..

As far as I am aware the HPI will only show finance, and if car has been registered CAT C or D etc. It will not show any other damage/claims on the vehicle.

The question was more over the AA/RAC inspection, and come back versus manufacturer warranty. e.g. if inspection is done and shows up damage to car, then I would make my decision on whether to proceed or not - so this would be worthwhile.

However if the steering is checked by AA/RAC and is all ok, but it fails within 2 months then I believe AA/RAC will pay for costs of repair - however as I have the warranty I am thinking it is not worth it?
