Kit cars of the future?

Which cars will be they be replicating in 10, 20, 30 years time?

You can buy replicas of quite a few iconic cars nowadays i.e. Countach, Stratos, RS200, GT40, Cobra, but what do you suppose the replica market of the future will consist of?

It may not be quite as iconic as those I mentioned already (maybe it is?), but personally I'd like to see the MK2 Escort make an appearance as a space-framed special, capable of taking anything from an original x-Flow or Pinto up to a V8. It's not that originals are too expensive for most people, it's just they becoming a bit sparse these days.

Mmm good thread op, personally i think (perhaps) Lotus Elise's, if they continue with plans to move into ferrari,porsche territory it will leave alot of people wanting the type of car that Lotus's are.

Does the TVR spare parts industry already allow someone to build a "new" TVR? Do the molds and chassis jigs still exist for the Tuscan, Griffith, Sagaris and Cerbera?

A US V8 might be the most realistic power plant as though there are a few S6 choices (Ford, BMW) modern high performance S6s are a bit rare and tend to be smaller than TVRs offering.

A US V8 might be the most realistic power plant as though there are a few S6 choices (Ford, BMW) modern high performance S6s are a bit rare and tend to be smaller than TVRs offering.

Just bung a 5.7l LS1 V8 in it, bags of tuning potential and are dirt cheap for such a robust engine

I do seem to recall a year or so back reading in Classic Ford mag that a company offers spaceframe MK1 Escort kits? Or at least, they'd done one and were considering doing more. Anyone able to substantiate that?

You can get a full fibreglass Mk1 Escort body, so I assume somebody can get a spaceframe to fit it to

On a serious note, I dont think kit cars will exist in a decade or so...the Euro-crats are doing all they can to bring the UK into line and force everybody to drive bland euro-box spam cans fueled by lentil knitted low co2 yoghurt

Sadly, quite possibly this.

If not then surely those manufacturers producing Lambo replicas will start producing replicas of various hypercars such as the Veyron.

Possibly the Alfa 8c Competizione (Jaguar XK based?), BMW Z8 & Morgan Aeromax (plenty of BMW donors!) could be others due to rarity/desirability/cheap & plentiful donors & at the budget end, several mid transverse engined track day/Radical style cars.

There are very few cars desirable & rare enough to warrant commercially viable replicas really. I can't think of any modern car having the same 'desirability, rarity & value' vs 'cost & simplicity of build' ratio as a Cobra or Lotus 7.

Sadly a very likely possibility. Even now there are relatively few countries that allow kit cars. It's only the UK's rapidly tightening type-approval loopholes (i.e. IVA) that allow them to continue. Emissions are only part of the problem - you can transplant the engine from a Blue Motion Polo into a kit if you want - it'll be safety. Small companies can't afford crash testing and frankly they can't afford to engineer cars with all the modern occupant and pedestrian safety rules.

On a separate note:

Not all kit cars are replicas! Cars like the Ultima, the GTM Libra and the early (kit-built) Nobles were all great (original) cars in their own right. To me they're far more interesting and far more representative of the kit car industry than yet another Cobra replica.
