Buying return ferry/tunnel crossings and not using return

Hi all,

Got a bit of an issue - I'll be going to France a number of times in the next few months and for various reasons I want to go over on the ferry and come back on the tunnel.

As usual single tickets are far more expensive than returns so I have a solutions but want your advice to tell me if I am going to have problems.

Can I buy return tickets on both the ferry and the tunnel and only use one portion? Will this cause issues on the day and/or for future crossings?

I expect I can get away with it the first time, maybe the first few times, but don't want to be blacklisted for not using both parts of the ticket and risk turning up to be given a huge bill to compensate for not using the other half of previously purchased return tickets??

Anyone got any experience with this or work for ferry/ tunnel companies??

surely if you have paid for it, then don't turn up they wouldn't penalise you, as its paid for?

Sorry, no real-world experience, just can't see it being an issue for them?!

The return section of a trip might be cancelled if the outgoing section is not used. No problem in not using the return section.

I think the issue is that they want to stop people doing this who go away for long periods.

I'll be going over and coming back on the same day, a single ticket is as much as 3 times the price of a return!!!

I did it a few years ago, came to the uk for a two week holiday and bought two day returns - one using UK address and CC, the other using french details.

Got two nasty letters warning me I would be banned if I did it again.

Hmmm, thought this might happen.

I can not afford to get banned.

I called Eurotunnel and told them unless they gave me special rates (I'm a commercial operator and potentially will spend ££££ with them) then I would just be taking the ferry. They offered ZERO flexibility.

No wonder they are skint
