About 2/3 weeks ago I was getting quotes for insurance on an Impreza STi (05 UK). They were usually around the £700 mark.
I just went into a couple of the comparison sites I had use before and the updated quotes are coming back at the £1400+ mark.
What has happened in the last couple of weeks?

All my details are unchanged from the previous time.

The first thing you need to do is stop using the price comparison websites. They cost more than applying for insurance directly. For sake of 5 minutes filling in the online application of the cheapest few, and using the insurers who don't use price comparison websites (I don't think Direct Line use them), then I reckon that you will save a few hundred pounds. Let me know how you get on!

I never do use them. Just as a guide for budgeting.
I was shocked at the doubling in quote prices though.

Oh and Bruce Lee pic is great. I am watching it right now!

My situation was the same on the S2000. £800 when I insured it this time last year, now its doubled! Luckily Adrian Flux came back in at £800 smile

Really pissed off with this.

I am job hunting at the moment due to my last contract finishing and fancied getting a new car once a job was in the bag.

A 330ci was what I wanted to get, however I think this insurance rise is going to scupper that.

It really was just over the last couple of weeks.
I am going to try a few other cars to see if it is a universal hike.

My budget is looking a bit stretched now. Not sure I can stomach a £1k insurance premium.
Haven't paid over £320 for the last 4 or 5 years.

I've got a year older, a year extra since I passed my test, and another year's no claim's bonus (I'm still little enough that this sort of thing matters). My renewal quote is an increase of £80, and that's the cheapest quote I've had!

I wanted a 328i in November frown

Also, for the first time in my 20yrs of driving the renewal quote from my existing insurer was not significantly increased from last year and less than anything the comparison sites could offer.

I wanted to buy a winter snotter, i.e. a car with at least a working heater. I found that the insurance quote for 3rd party, Fire & theft on a 15 year old banger was almost the same price as for my insurance group 20 daily driver!

FFS, the insurance was more expensive than the old banger I was looking at buying.

Insurance on the E36's is more then E46's for me! Not sure why....

Also we found that our renewals were competitive for once as well and ended up keeping both cars in the household with their existing insurers, first time in ages we've not moved atleast one of them.
