Sale or return - good or bad experiences?
Discussion
About to sell my 996 and don't have the time at the moment to go down the usual private sale route. Have found a reputable dealer willing to sell the car for what seems to be a reasonable price (although I realise he is pitching at this point so may be optimistic with his valuation) but just wondering what the pitfalls are...?
All paperwork must also go to the dealer with the car. Is this normal? From a buyers perspective I would want to see all the paperwork with the car so I guess this is normal protocol...?

They put it on the forecourt, They pay for the advertising and they chuck in all the bits that come with a sale. Not a bad thing.
On the down side, you may as well just P/x against your new car, you will get just as much and sooner. Salesmen wont be as interested in selling your car as one owned by the dealer. They will earn more money off the car thats on stocking, usually. If your car was that likely to sell the dealer would buy it off you.
Id keep hold of the log book, give them a copy but hold on to the original.

I can not or would not comment on JZ-M as I have never dealed with them.
This is my experience of Sale or Return. Make your own mind up.
I wanted to sell my 964 RS Lightweight Replica and like you, lack of time and too many timewasters forced me in to sale or return.
Dealer 1 (A freind of a freind) advertised the car for 3 weeks or so. I didnt hear a thing so tried to get in touch by phone. I couldnt contact him so went to see him and his showroom was gone! (It was there for about 15 years previously!). Eventually I contacted him and was assured my car was safe. I asked for it back there and then, but was told it was difficult to get to. Cut a long story short a week later I eventually (and luckily) got it back.
Dealer 2.
I approached them as they had a nice showroom selling similar stuff. We agreed on a price tht I needed to get back and anything else he could keep. We agreed and they took the car in.
It was put forefront in the showroom and very well advertised.
A couple of weeks later I was driving down the local bypass. A car was overtaking coming towards me. No problem as there was lots of room. Then what are the chances but MY CAR comes flying towards me overtaking them both, forcing ME to swerve out of the way!!!!
To understate, I was NOT impressed and went straight down to see the guy. I was told it was someone on a test drive who had actually left a deposit and was buying the car (just as well really!).
Anyhow, I go to collect a cheque for the agreed amount. This bounces 7 days later. I'm now panicking as I have no car and no money. I speak to the dealer who assures me that he will make a new cheque out to me that will clear. In the mean time I make a few enquiries to see where I stand and am told that as I have given permission for the dealer to sell my car, if he does not pay me or the cheque bounces again it is a civil matter. I can not claim the car as "stolen" and will effectively be left penniless awaiting a civil case and more than likely taking on a Limited Company. Luckily enough the cheque did clear but I would never do the same again.
A freind of mine lost an almost new Ducati through sale or return. The bike WAS sold, but he never got a penny. The business was wound up and the director set up again somewhere else. He has since been visited by some big guys but even so, the money never re-surfaced.
You are putting your trust in a limited company.
