Driving Licence / V5 / Insurance Address Issue

Sorry if this has been asked a million times. Searched but couldn't find a definitive answer.

Moving address in a week or so. Most probably temporary. Around 9 months due to work re-location.

My question is, what paperwork do I need to change my address on. I will obviously change my insurance adress as the car will be kept at the new address.

What else do I need to change?

Is a different address on the V5 and insurance an offence?

V5 v Insurance:

Don't think so. V5 is registering your car to any address you have. That's where they send fines and notices, so if anything happens you'll need to know about it before they stack up.

Insurance must be registered to the address the car is living in at the time, if something were to happen at that address they would investigate.

Both of the above are very very easy changes to make though; for the V5 just fill in the form, send it off and it will be back in 10 days. With Insurance it'll be a small fee from your insurer most likely but fairly easy to do. But in conclusion to your question, don't think there's a problem if they are different.

Insurance is up for renewel so no problem there. As long as I'm commiting an offence it may be OK to just leave it then.

I think there are enough grounds to show it is temp. Renting on a rolling contract for example.

I would expect the V5 doesn't need to register the car at the address of the driver - otherwise alot of company car users would be in trouble!

As said above, provided its registered to an address where tax reminders and fines etc can reach the driver then i expect that would be sufficient?

I doubt it will matter. If you're moving to a new address for 9 months, I'm sure that would still be considered your main address. I'm pretty sure it's an offence to have a car registered to an address you don't live at. For the small hassle of changing the address it's hardly worth the risk of insurers not paying, or a fine if the DVLA (or whoever) find out somehow

On which note when I think about it, my V5 and Driving License are registered to the address I call my Home, but the insurance is at my other address that my car lives at. I'm certainly not intentionally breaking any laws and a policeman did ask me about it once upon a time but said it was fine.

I'll just change the lot then. Probably less hassle than the potential risks should anything go wrong!

In reality its never going to happen and is too hard to enforce.

To be honest, the reason I ask is because a couple of years ago a mate (actually true for once) moved house and bought a new car, registering it to his new address. His licence remained at his old address and when he got a speeding ticket through the post, he faced a problem.

I appreciate that this is a little different to my circumstances although I was just wondering.
