Replacement for 964- Your suggestions please

Hi all

Firstly sorry for another what car thread but I could really do with some PH opinion on this.

Sadly our 13 year family owned Porsche has gone to a new home out of the family. My Uncle who currently had the car decided he wanted something new and seen as no one else in the family wanted it at this time it had to go elsewhere.

I would have bought it had I been a lot lot older and had the money but sadly it was not to be. If I do find it again and have the money I will buy it back in a flash.

So he's got about 14k to spend on a new car but is unsure on what he really wants. Ideally it needs to something that has the same sort of character as the 964 but perhaps in a different package, something fairly quick, looks great, preferably drop top and most definitely loud!!!

I was thinking something like a TVR or a similar V8 car, what do you guys think would be the best car? All suggestions welcome.

Oh BTW if anyone does see it about or knows who has bought it, could you let me know as I would like to know how it is getting on with its new owner

Thanks for the suggestions, I do like the idea of a chim but dont know what I'm looking for or any history on them.

Boxster and 993 are good suggestions but really I think it needs to be something different for a while at least.

Someone suggested an E30 M3 cab to me, what do you think?

please trust me - NOT a Boxster. Dead and lifeless compared to a 964. sorry its true and yes I have owned both. An M3 (E46) is lacking in soul (sorry great car but just a bit too BMW!) A Z3M is a good alternative to a 964 if you ask me.

a TVR is a very different beast but will fill the heart just like the 964 did. A Tuscan with a decent set up will make you grin like a loon - but then again why not get a 4.5 Cerb.....more soul than James Brown, Otis Reading and the Commitments more grunt than a rutting Sperm whale (thanks for that line 1991 Performance bikes)and faster than Superman.

I drive an E30 M3 (non cab) and I love it to bits and wouldn't have anything else but I wouldn't recommend an E30 M3 cab. I would however recommend a TVR, probably a Cerb.

I have been there and had the exactly the same problem

Went from a gorgeous 964 C4.............to a Cerbera

You will love it!!!

Thanks for the comments, seems like TVR is on the books, but a mate reckons an XKR might be a good option if I wanted a more relaxing drive.
