Anyone have a Phaeton?

Will be changing my car soon and can see that 3.0tdi Phaetons around 05-07 can be had for 13-17k with average mileage which seem like a lot of car for the money.

Has anyone on here got one? What are the running costs and reliability like?

You could be brave and purchase one of the W12s, I've not got a clue how reliable they are mind, so it's probably best to ignore me.

From what i've read the 3.0tdi which is found in the Touareg, A4, A6 etc can do high mileage without major issues.

Its the rest of car i'm asking about really.

How much depreciation do we reckon something like that have to go over the next 3 years - will it level out around £10K or continue a slide down to £6 - £7K??

I`m not too sure but it`s an awful lot of car for not that much money isn`t it?

I`m half tempted to have a look myself this weekend.....it`s only about twenty minutes up the road from me.

A lot of car for the money is what I was thinking.

Was just wondering whether it would reach a plateau of around £10K and hover as the people who are in the market for a car of £6-7K couldn't afford to run, insure and service it so it would stop the "slide".

Added to that, people who can afford it at £10-£13K realise its such a lot of metal for the cash snap them up at that price thereby sustaining the market value similar to the the Elise which seem to hit £15K quickly then slowly descend down towards £10K

Interesting that Matt thinks it will continue to devalue, time will tell I suppose.

I'm no expert, but just look at the ather luxo-barges, ie 7 series, S class etc. They continue to slide and 10yo examples can be picked up for pocket money.

They are highly complex and will need specialist skills to fix maintain and I am sure will be capable of throwing up serious 4-figure bills with ease.

Just can't see why the Phaeton will buck this trend.

Great cars and I sourced a 3.0 for our MD

Almost 99% guaranteed to drop to 7-8k over the next 3-4 years and indeed some already have. It's the same old story with E/S class, 7 series and A8's.

Buy it and run it for 18 months then shift on

4,2 tdi A8 every time. Nice low mileage one with Audi main dealer warranty for around 20k.

I guess so, just been browsing the classifieds and noticed you can pick up a 98-99 plate XK8 for £5-£6K now so I see no reason that this won't go the same way.

I was always very tempted by a W12, even at £1000 a year for servicing, but I read an online road test and it seems the steering wasn't good and it was generally underwhelming. Maybe in a few more years...
A friend of mine has just bought a 56 plate Audi A8 which he quite likes.
