can i ask what are they like to drive ? are they fun ?

what about long jourmneys... they look like theyd be awful to drive and truly hateful to have to sit in for longer than about 10 mins but then i cant be right as they have such a massive following ?

Depends what you mean by 'fun'. They're fun in a 'wow this rolls a lot' and a 'wow there's a ruddy lot of torque' and a 'jesus we can go further than a mountain goat up here' way. And that can be a lot of fun. They aren't suited to hooning - in the traditional sense - though.
You'll get 10 people in the LWB versions and it'll go anywhere even on all-terrain tyres. Go for it.
(ETA: they are really noisy and pretty uncomfortable for long journeys. Your feelings towards this will depend on what you've driven before.)

One thing I've never noticed when driving a Defender is lot's of torque. I find, TD5s especially need to be revved harder than any other diesels other than small capacity non-turbo diesels.You'll get 10 people in the LWB versions and it'll go anywhere even on all-terrain tyres. Go for it.

Never driven a TD5. The 200 TDi my dad had felt amazingly torquey. Most people seem to think the TD5 is the worst pick of the Defender engines unless you want high performance on road; you can make the TD5 surprisingly quick.I hate them and I did 100,000 miles in a 95 nissan patrol, including driving it to Lithuania and Gibraltar.

Was particularly unimpressed in peat when one wheel sunk leaving no weight on the opposite corner and no drive. At least another one turned up and pulled me out eventually.

I drive an old Landie (1967), as I've said on here before shes slow, noisy and thirsty but I do enjoy piloting the old barge down the road and I'm glad I have her (though moreso once I have a 200TDi in her) and even at 43 with 70ish bhp she will drag my neighbours car and car trailer up a muddy slope without a shrug.
They will last forever if looked after and even a standard one will go further off road than you would think and are completely customisable to what the owner wants.
Newer ones I expect will a bit quicker, a bit quieter and alot less thirsty but the best tip is to try before you buy.

ok heres my view on defenders. they will go just about anywhere in the right hands, and with a few limited mods. but as an every day drive unless your a farmer there not good.
they leak there drafty not perticularly fast infact slow 0 - 60 is an age. be prepared to get landrovers elbow and left calf. ie: your right elbow hits the door turning corners and your left calf hits the handbreak.
but there a love them or hate them vehicle.

I've had a few, and I find them fine on a journey. A 110 helps as you can recline the seat more - an earlier 90 usually has a bulkhead behind the seats which limits how far from the steering wheel you can be (but the bulkhead can be removed).i like the longer ones, like this:

I've got a 2001 110 CSW, nice condition, two sets of wheels and with a chipped engine so it's a little bit quicker. Will be selling it soon if you're interested, and it'll be quite a lot cheaper than the advert you linked to....

Mind you, you've got a 110 which is much better on road than a 90.
My house mate used to have a td5 90 station wagon, it was his only car.
He loved the thing, it was great fun. We could be blasting around the roads one min and then bombing down a green lane the next. The rear seats aren't very comfy for a long period of time and you dont have much room for your arms in the front. The longest journey I travelled in it was about 130 miles and it wasn't too bad considering we were doing about 90-95mph most of the way.
Its a marmite car, you'll either love it or hate it. Go test one and see what you think.

The new ones are a lot easier to live with on a day to day basis (07 onwards).
I used to have a 200 tdi which was tiresome even on a 50 mile motorway jouney as it was reving it's nuts off at 70 mph
My latest svx I drove home from near Brighton,some 280 miles and the journey was no problem at all mostly thanks to the 6th gear.
