First Pictures: Ferrari SA APERTA Roadster

Ferrari has chopped the roof off the 599 and created a limited edition called the SA APERTA. It's going to debut at the Paris motor show next month, but you can't buy one as all 80 cars in the series have been pre-sold.

The number 80 was chosen because the SA APERTA is a celebration of Pininfarina's 80th anniversary, says Ferrari. The SA nomenclature also pays homage to both Sergio and Andrea Pininfarina whose company and work have been linked to the most successful road-going cars ever built at Maranello.

The SA APERTA is a true roadster with what Ferrari describes as 'just a light soft top designed to be resorted to only if the weather gets particularly bad'. Other modifications include a low-slung windscreen and slightly reduced ride height. Its profile arches back from the A-post to two aerodynamic fins integrating twin roll-bars which themselves mimic the outline of the seats.

The chassis has been redesigned to deliver a standard of stiffness comparable to that of the 599 coupe and there is a negligible weight difference according to the factory.

The SA APERTA gets an uprated 670hp V12 engine beneath its bonnet, and with a virtually endless range of colour combinations available it's likely that each of the 80 cars will be in some way unique. The price is expected to be announced at the Paris show, although the indication is that it will start around the £340k mark before buyers start to hit the options list.

It's got my vote. Although i would like to see a picture of its bottom, the 599's rump isn't the best.

Transaxle cooling as well I'd imagine.

B-piller intakes simply channel air on to the rear deck, this should help with rear end lift.

Car looks lovely the 599 is the only current Ferrari that does anything for me.
