Hi all, how bad is travelling from Kent in to Essex using the Dartford Crossing weekdays please?

I need to check in at Stansted airport 10am Tuesday morning, coming from Margate. This should take two hours door to door. I am allowing three so should hit the glorious Tunnel around 8.15am. Do you think that will give me enough time for any 'normal' delays, barring any massive accidents?

Thanks all! smile

A2/M25 interchange to Dartford Tunnel at that time of the morning will probably take 25-30 minutes so factor that in to your timings.

Unless there's something gone wrong I rarely see any heavy traffic going north at that time of day so it's just a matter of luck on the day. Tune into 97.3fm for traffic news every 15 minutes on the 1/4 hour

Must just be me then.

Note to everyone else on PH. Don't use the Dartford Tunnel if I'm going to. hehe

I'll admit I'm not a regular, only twice a week and I turn off for the power station but I don't normally see a build up until 9.30-10ish although the bridge always looks bad.

Leave plenty of time as their are works on the M25/M11 junction & elsewhere, I''d give it more than 3 hours & I live in Chatham.

Worth coming off at the Bean junction going past Bluewater & through Stone village & getting on the tunnel entrance just before it.

The worst bit is usually after the tunnel from J31 up to the M11, those roadworks are a nightmare and it is always busier travelling that way early mornings. You might better going up the A13 to Sadlers farm, then on the A130 up to the A12 at Chelmsford, then to Stansted from Chelmsford. I regularly do the drive back from Gatwick to Suffolk around this time and find that a much safer route. HTH

Thank you all so much for your help, it is really appreciated. I hadn't thought further than getting through the Tunnel, so thanks for the comments on the M11 too! I think I'd better leave at 6am! smile
