Total stations that add a penny...
Discussion
Friend of mine just posted on Facebook about a total station that adds a penny however careful he is when filling up. This reminded me of a Total station that i used to use (because of work) that also added a penny to the total (pardon the pun). When i asked about it they said it must be me...
I subsequently googled this and came across one of those sites where people review things (like you'd check the reviews before going to buy a paper...) and a total station came up again with the adding a penny thing...
Anyone else noticed this and put it down to being slightly careless with the trigger?

Happened to me at a Jet station, and another station I can't remember which company, possibly Tesco. I put it down to old equipment being pushed too hard with a big petrol price. The Jet station has since turned down the speed of delivery and no longer rolls round a penny, but it now takes longer to fill up.
So, it could just be old equipment delivering fuel at a higher price than it was designed to. If you see what I mean.

Not as bad as one recently where I managed to get 63.75 litres into a 63 litre tank that still had 70 miles showing on the range. Mmmmm!
The quoted volume of your tank probably precludes the filler neck, which could potentially hold a couple of litres depending on your car.Mars said:

These are far from reliable though as, if the flow of liquid is too rapid or if the pressure is too great they can spin more than they should. Effectively overtaking the actual amount of fuel passing through.
The reason I'm telling you this (and I apologise if you already knew), is that by simply loosening a small allen screw you can make the "spinner" more loose and "encourage" it to give a falsely high reading.
