Which coupe, 4 seats for woman £1500 ish.

So, daughter wants something to bolster her image and hasn't got a clue what to get. She also wants it to be reasonable economical. Anybody got any suggestions.

Test drove a hyundai yesterday (the curvy one) it was awful. Loud booming from the rear which may have been the diff so not sure if this was a typical car. She's going to try another one today. It did feel cheap and nasty compared to her saab 9000 2.3t. I think she saw a ford couger but it was a 2.5 and she's after something with a smaller engine.

I'd say a girl in a mint early 944 would look pretty good.

Admittedly it'll be at least a 2.5 but they're economical. A Corrado or Audi Coupe could be reasonable options too.

Prelude 2.2VTi is a good car in this price range as far as reliability and reasonable performance go. An 80K 1999 car with low miles (say 80K) should be easy to find.

However the image isn't that great- mind you other than the 944 mentioned earlier I don't think many coupes in this price range have a 'sexy' image. Possibly the Fiat Coupe.

Corrado maybe- the G60, 8v and 16V were hovering around this price range before the scrappage scheme ruined everything.

My Dad had a Cougar for a bit. It actually wasn't all that bad. Very comfy, quite big. More GT aimed than sports car though, but plenty of space.

Quite like the Honda Prelude too, the 4ws is pretty funky. Rover Tomcat looks nice too.

Personally I'd go for the Cougar too. To be honest, the two engines are pretty similar economy wise (29 mpg combined for V6, 34 for 2l). IMO they're a lot of car for the money right now though and still look quite fresh. Not too many of them about which is good, but they share enough parts I would think for that not to be an issue?

Very good handling. Funky inside, but Fiesta based so it won't be any Jag.

Watch for rust though. And not much of a 4 seater if you want to make regular use of the rear seats.
