Hello i drive a land rover at the moment it has been awesome for me as i recently became a amputee (little accident with a landmone in afghan) and it has been a work horse dragging all my kit around the country. I have found out i am entitled to a motability car so am thinking of getting a practical car that can become my workhorse! Trading in the Landy leaves me with some freed up cash. Anywho to the real question for my weekend car what should i buy?? I have 20k and want a fun car, it needs to be auto or tiptronic as my license is auto only now frown I have looked at a few bmw m3's but bit chavy although the drive was awesome, dont feel i fancy the service costs of a porsche but love them!! nissan 350z looks intersting?? Please help ?? Open minded just want a nice toy to take out and hit the roads! Thanks for reading

Sorry to hear about your injury mate, id hazard a guess at something like an rs4. I *think* you can get a tiptronic version but not 100% certain on that.

Whilst the RS4 is a capable car, I'm not sure it suits the OP's needs for a fun driver's car. I'll post back if I can think of any good suggestions!

Sorry mate, my thoughts are with you. You can't get an RS4 with a tiptronic box unfortunately.

yes I recently test drove both an E46 M3 (2005 model up for £20k at a BMW main dealer) and an RS4 (2007 model up for £35k at a main dealer), and they were everything you say - halfway between an ordinary saloon and a sports car. I still viewed them as a bit of a compromise though. You could try a Z4 Coupé - I've got one and I really like it (stiffer and shorter ratio gearbox than the Roadster). My mint one is for sale, but sadly it's manual, but there are automatics out there (not sure if they have the performance advantage over the roadster though..).
