Cheque to DVLA and forms to your local office. Include a photocopy of your tax disc too.

Photocopy of what tax disk?
I have a plate that's been on retention for the past 3 years! Previous vehicle it was on is long since gone!
Retention means held without being actually on a vehicle.
Back to the ops question, it does have payment instructions on the back of the retention form, not obviously clear, but they are there!

If you're putting a plate on Retention that's currently on a vehicle it's worthwhile sending in a photocopy of the tax disc too. Obviously if all you're doing is renewing your entitlement to retain a plate for another year then you won't have a tax disc to photocopy.
