Tyres - Sensible Oppinions please!

Hey all, sadly my tures are coming to the end of their usefull (road legal) life. Still have a few miles on them but will need replacing soon. Car is my little pug 206 1.4, nothing sporty just a cheap little run around. However i do want to get away from the budget crap. Whats currently on the car are absolutly lethal in the wet and not much better in the dry, the whole car is just extremly nervous/twitchy all the time. I have little confidence in it in the dry and absolutly none in the wet.

Currently im on 14inch steelies. I will go get the rest of the measurements of the tyres after.

Can anybody recomend me some decent tyres, that arent too expensive and where i could get some from. I dont mind buying online as i know several people who would be quite happy to fit them for me. Thanks a lot (=

Toyo proxes T1Rs can be had off Ebay for around £30-40 a corner.

Decent in the dry and when it's wet.

Toyo Proxies or Falkens are excellent mid-price tyres. They punch above their weight relative to price.

Toyo CF-1's are around £50 a corner at blackcircles. good tyres too, had them on my last car.

Uniroyal rainsport 2's are good in the dry and awesome in the wet, pretty good value but can be very hard to get hold of in the right size.

In the last few years I've ran T1Rs, P-Zeros, and Avon ZV3s amongst others. But far beyond any of those was the Continental Sport Contact 2s which came in 16inch form as standard on my Alfa Mito. What was so impressive was the grip in any condition, whereas the P-Zeros were terrible when the temperatures dropped.

I'd buy Continental tires again.

Toyo T1Rs worked well for me - for the price you'd struggle to beat them all-round.

Im trying to steer clear of the budgets, im thinking about going for the Toyo Proxies, £36 a corner, and have a friend with access to all the equipment to fit them for me.

Do people here generally rate the auto car tyre tests? Seem to get different results each year, is this due to using different sizes etc or changes in design?
