Had the misfortune to get a taxi to work this morning.

4 AM start - so a taxi turns up.

Knackered 53 plate Mondeo. Diesel engine like a bag of hammers, headlight out wierd noises from the suspension and dashboard and at speeds abvoe 60 it shook like a dog having a ste.

The driver was surprisingly well mannered and appeared to be a resonable person.

He told me he spends on average 15-16 hours in the car a day - more than he spend at home.

Fair enough.

But if you spend that much time in your car, you'd think you'd get stuff fixed.

The headlight out - he didn't know about. But surely banging and grating from the back of the car a shake at motorway speeds and more shaking during braking would concern him.

It surprised me as most cabs from that firm are decent new VW/Skoda stock, all under 3 years old.

Its amazing what people will put up with behind the wheel.

Not tipping some bloke to pitch up at my house and drive me 10 miles.

I only tip if they do something like load luggage or something like that.

Many companies own cars and the poor exploited driver rents the car and keeps part of the profit so doesn't give a monkey's scrote about the condition, just the tiny profit he'll make.

There's a car that drives up my street at roughly the same time every evening with the world's noisiest fan-belt.

What I do resent is when they can't be arsed getting off their fat loathsome behinds and honk the horn.
