Restoration sequence
Discussion
Hi all
Okay; to alot of you this may be a stupid question but my expertise is driving/training so please excuse this.
Son and I are restoring our new acquisition; a G-Reg MX5. Engine is fine and generally, chassis is fine. Its mainly the bodywork which needs definate love and attention.
So, next three areas for this attention are:
1) Some rust sorting / welding on the sills, both sides. About 4" x 4"
2) Dents, one on pax door and one on rear drivers wing. Been told the door one might prove
a problem due to the lack of space to knock it out. Therefore maybe looking at
obtaining a second-hand door; about £50 max
3) Full back to bare metal respray
4) Full chassis inside and out, anti-rust protection with dinitrol (which everyone says is
alot better than waxoyl)
I assume this is the right way to go about the above.
Comments / help please
Thanks

4" by 4" on the sill suggests that it's going to need more than a patch. Sills as a rule rust from the inside out so once you start poking around I think you will find it is a bit worse than it looks.
yup the last MX5 sill I welded for a customer required 38inches of metal both sides and took 2 days to full rebuild and weld up (excluding prep and paint)Gassing Station | General Gassing [Archive] | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
