I've narrowed my next car down to either a 205 GTi or a Clio 182 but I can't decide which to go for.

What would be the better car for my daily commute which is 3 miles each way and which would be the more reliable - especially as winter is fast approaching!

I've seen a very tidy Gti for just under £3k which could be kept for ever while the clio would be a stop gap for a year or so.

What would your choice be?

Thanks!

I'd imagine the newer 182 would be more reliable.

Why would the Clio only be for a year but the old Pug is a keeper? The misty-eyed look back on the Pug with fondness as the best little hot hatch ever... but they're wrong, the 182 will trump it in every way.

Neither a three mile commute would kill the engines. Unless you take ten minutes each time waming the engines up first. Stop being such a pansy. You're looking at a ten minute cycle ride and would save money on fuel and gym membership.

Clio for the winter then sell up and buy a GTI for the summer. Both cars are great fun to drive but you cant beat the rawness of the 205!

Bike suggestion is silly. I do a 1.1 mile commute. I need to have my car during the day for work purposes (if there's no pool cars available), and I car share.

So, people, he's asking for a commuting recommendation, not a lifestyle lecture.

I cycled to work for 6mths then stopped because I got pissed off with stupid drivers trying to kill me through extremely poor driving skills and literally trying to knock me off.

Rant off.
