According to the BBC news the owner of the Segway company has been killed after driving one of his machines over a cliff.

RIP.

Segway boss Jimi Heselden dies in scooter cliff fall Mr Heselden acquired the UK Segway operation in 2010 The millionaire owner of the UK Segway company has died after apparently riding one of his company's motorised scooters off cliffs and into a river.

Jimi Heselden, 62, crashed into the River Wharfe while riding the vehicle round his estate in Thorp Arch, Boston Spa, West Yorkshire, on Sunday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The scooter was found in the water.

Mr Heselden, who founded Leeds-based company Hesco Bastion, acquired the Segway operation in 2010.

A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police confirmed Mr Heselden's identity.

She said: "Police were called at 1140 yesterday to reports of a man in the River Wharfe, apparently having fallen from the cliffs above."

She said a "Segway type" vehicle had been recovered.

Uh.... what an idiot.

If the Segway you are on is heading uncontrolably towards a cliff, i have a great suggestion.

Sounds more like a suicide job to me.

Well, if it was going towards the cliff, then chances are he'd hit a bump and was leaning forwards, as it only goes if you lean, yes?
Ergo, stepping off backwards when you're already overbalanced because you're leaning forwards is completely the opposite to your natural reactions..

What?

You jump sideways! You do ANYTHING other than roll off the cliff.

I've been careering down a mountainside at 30mph on my DH bike, out of control due a broken something or other, heading towards a tree, and didn't hit the tree. It's really bloody simple.

You just get off.

There aren't many safe ways to travel if you go over the edge of a cliff.

Glider, perhaps.

What if some other event occurred? Heart attack, seizure, passed out.... who knows what happened.
This guy was actually a decent bloke, made a fortune from developing a system which saves countless lives in the military and then gave the fortune away to charity.

Bit of respect wouldn't go amiss.

Never hear of this guy before, but then again he seemed to be a generous hearted guy who didn't spit roast hookers, didn't do coke, didn't seek the celebrity life, so why would anyone in the press be the slightest bit interested in a guy who gave away millions of his own money with no fanfare to charities, Ah yes he died on a slightly bonkers transport system.

My sympathies to his family and my contempt to the press who need to feature more of this sort of person and less X factor coke snorting hooker who say's shes the best mum in the world.

When I go, I hope I don't go in a stupid way that makes everyone outside of my close friends and family laugh.
