Obtaining Radio Code from Dealer
Discussion
The battery had to be disconnected from my five year old van and now the head unit needs a code. Contacted the dealer and now they're saying because they're not the same company that sold the van to me, they'll have to charge me for the code. I'm a bit suspicious of them now that the service manager got a bit cocky and said that I should have checked before I took the van in the first instance.
I can honestly say that I have never seen the card with the radio code on it. I have everything in the driver's pack, including the deliver PDI sheet, but no radio user booklet, no code.
My mate tells me he can access a database to get the code, but don't dealers have these codes on file?

I bought a honda with no radio code, contacted local dealer who id bought a few things off (parts), they happily gave me the code for free but i could have been because i was "known" to them and my car was on their customer database.
Im guessing this is a security issue and the dealer not wanting to give out a code for a potentially stolen radio?
Maybe you could try going down in person?

I recently had to get a code for a Renault Clio and they charged me £15! I also had to take the V5 into the dealership to show proof of owenership, what a joke!
Same for our Clio when I foolishly disconnected the battery. And they got the code wrong three times so it locked the radio for another 24 hours. This was on a friday and I had to use the car for a long trip that weekend. Wasn't exactly a happy customer.I understand the security issue, but this is clearly not the case as I bought the van from them and I verified with all relevant details (including the VRN before I put my own plate on it).
They're digging their heels in, saying that the dealership is now under new management and they therefore cannot give the code to me foc.
