Suppose you didnt have a car/licence ?

Say the unthinkable happened and you couldnt drive, perhaps because of a ban, either driving or medical related.



How would you cope ?

How expensive would driving have to be for you to look at alternatives ?


What alternatives would you look at ?


Got me thinking as my grandad is about to stop due to his age and failing eyesight, even at his age with him being long retired it is going to hamper him.


For me personally, it would be inconvenient, but not the end of the world.

I'd lose my job for a start!

It wouldn't be the end of the world but it would be damn close! I could manage, but I'd probably be damn miserable as driving is my only hobby.

I went through a spell of not having a car a few months after passing my test, it was hard, public transport is horrible.

Tot up how many taxi journeys your grandad can afford for the annual cost of insurance and servicing plus the capital value of the car.

I'd be fine without a car as I can run or cycle to work and there's a bus stop outside the house. It would be inconvenient but not a disaster.

I would be pretty buggered!

When I'm at uni it wouldn't be as bad, I would have to get a peddle bike or something.

At home I live four miles from the nearest bus stop and six miles from the nearest town. I would pretty much depend on family and friends to give me lifts when I wanted to go places.

It would also pretty badly restrict me job wise when I start applying next summer, as being a surveyor I would almost certainly be required to have a drivers licence.

I commute to work by tube, own a bike and could shop by Ocado.

I've been without a car for a while before and it was no fun at all though... I need to get out and just drive now and again

depending on how much your job is worth, invest in a driver. That sorts out the day job, evenings, well get a taxi.
