Coming to a Volvo near you soon. So you'd better get out of the way!

Is this some kind of automatic braking system?

It worries me that people will start relying on this technology soon. Imagine when Mr Jones takes his Volvo to a garage for repairs and they give him a basic car for a few days. How long would it be before he remembers to think and brake for himself??!

Yep I believe its called city safety and is supposed to be some kind of low speed crash mitigation system. Its supposed to brake for you if you dont see pedestrians or react in time. Apparently it thought this pedestrian was a tractor. Not sure that quite explains why it allowed the car to crash into it though?

This is the second such video of volvo shwoing off their new technology in front of the media. The last one piled into the back of a truck to the sound of many journo's sniggering.

Hmm, I think there are already quite a few systems that mitigate danger, I am sure these will mature and become useful but I can also see your car starting to behave like a nervous horse in traffic or when a bin bag blows across the road.

they should ban all such devices.
people drive like morons at the best of times and it will only get worse if they think the car will save the day for them.
