...New Keeper Supplement on V5C/2.

What could be gained from this and why would anybody want to do it?

think they do it at the post office when you tax a car with it, don't know why.

If that's the case it causes a lot of problems. What if you were to buy a car from a garage and it had a cherished plate on before, the new reg does not tally with the reg on the green slip, can't use the barcode, so can't take car home.

Doesn't the barcode have the number it represents underneath it? What if the barcode reader is defect? They would have to enter the number manually right?

To prevent people using the same slip at multiple POs to get multiple tax discs for nefarious purposes?

(1) if those people are paying multiple times, I can't see the government having a problem with it smile
(2) under the old system (reminder doc, insurance cert, MOT, payment) I guess you could have done this too. Even if they take the reminder away from you, there's another form you can fill in to get a tax disc without the reminder.

Surely someone who has cloned a car isn't going to walk into a Post Office and pay for tax?

If this is the case and a new log book has not yet been received you need to take the green slip into a DVLA office to tax it.

Not common as to mess around with private plates the car needs to be taxed anyway.
