Fantasy jet-assisted supercar imagines 205mph with 560m range
C-X75 Jaguar on the 'catwalk' tonight
Before you get too excited, the only part of the new car likely to see the light of day is the front end, which heralds the new design treatment for future Jaguar production models. The rest is a stunning fantasy, created to celebrate Jaguar's 75th anniversary, and hopefully to 'steal the motor show' that opens here in Paris tomorrow.
It's all about extremes, says Callum
"Supercars are all about the extremes - extremes of performance and extremes of shape," said Jaguar design boss Ian Callum at the reveal, before thanking Jaguar's advanced design director Julian Thomson for his work on the project.
We didn't get any more quotes, as we had to hot-foot it back to our hotel to post the story, but hopefully we'll pick up a few more insights during the press conference due to be broadcast live here on PH tomorrow.
As befits a concept, the C-X75 showcases some pretty advanced technology - specifically a pair of micro gas-turbines behind the driver, that act as 140kw range-extenders for the battery powered motors.
A new front treatment for XK models?
Each weighing 35kgs, they produce 70kw of energy apiece at 80,000rpm, and are dependent on airflow sucked into the car via those deeply sculpted side vents. They don't provide thrust, but drive generators instead. According to Jaguar, they can run on a range of fuels including diesel, biofuels, CNG or LPG - and the units in the concept have been er, conceived with the help of British partner Bladon Jets.
With four 145kw (195bhp) traction motors and the aforementioned turbines, Jaguar reckons the C-X75 could be good for 205mph, with a 0-62mph time of 3.4secs and a range of a whopping 560miles. Which would be pretty amazing, if we could drive home in it today!

Due to be shown to the public in 13 hours I believe?
Bloody superb.
If I have to have an electric car, using a gas turbine as the genny set always made sense. The same setup, albeit on a much more massive scale (they use LM2500s, so basically an engine of a 747) is used for power stations, heavy plant and warships, as well as the Queen Mary 2. Then again, in those applications, it is easier to harvest the exhaust heat energy than on a micro scale, I would imagine.
ISTR Jag giving a grant to a firm that was producing an entire fan assembly (blades and hub) from a single billet using spark erosion. Nice and strong, and easy to manufacture on the micro scale. This allows for a proper axil flow GT, as opposed to the simpler and less efficient radial flow design that GTs of this scale usually employ.
That rear is pure 13 and Dear God in heaven that is never a bad thing.
I dont care what you put underneath it Jag, just build that shape. Make just 13 of em, charge a million each, pure fooking halo.
In fact, anyone else thinking that if they were a Jag boffin, they would reform the Saturday club and be tinkering with blowing twice on that 5ltr V8 they have instead of just once?

They look absolutely nothing alike.
I love the balance and the super dynamic and fluid linework.
Also the interior looks great.
I am not so sure, however, on the front graphics.
I would keep the front grill really oval. The more square look might work for the sedans but for the sportscars it does not look 'Jaguar' to me. And the front side air intakes are too spare and crude and too much of a contrast to the rest of the beautiful shape, imo. But this just are details.
Very, very good work in deed.
I'll be on the press days tommorrow, but without having seen any of the show yet, I would be not surprised that THIS is the car of the show !
