A question for the great and good. If you only had the budget above but needed a reliable estate capable of taking two and a half dogs what would you buy?

Serious question so any help would be brill. beer

ps Duplicated from the Yorkshire forum.

Mk2 Mondeo, surprisingly good to drive even in 1.8 form.
Passat B5, silly money for an old banger.
Volvo 740, watch the brakes though.
Volvo T4 if you can find one, seem to be getting very rare.
Vauxhall Omega if they are really big dogs, must be manual.

RWD - BMW 3 or 5 series

FWD - Audi A4 or A6

4WD - Legacy or Impreza if you're feeling brave (at this price level)

Volvo 850, £1500 will get you a tidy T5 as well.

Why must it be manual?
I've had both and the auto suits it perfectly, the manual does not.
