Paris: Range Rover Evoque

The first proper pic of a 5-door, but only 3-doors in the metal

JLR has issued a nice new official picture of the Evoque 5 door, so we don't all keep looking at that dodgy 'spy' image reportedly circulated by a representative of one of the firm's Eastern European dealers. (Following a supposedly 'private' viewing last week.)

Along with today's new pic, Range Rover MD Phil Popham has confirmed at the Paris Motor Show that the five door will be officially revealed later in the year, as we have already reported.

That's because on its Paris stand, JLR is limiting itself to showing three examples of the new Evoque 3 door, all in identical spec and thus not showing off the three trim levels that will be available at launch.

However, it's the first time hacks have been able to clamber over the new car to confirm mainly that a) it looks quite desirable if you like that sort of thing (which we think we sort of do) and b) the rear view is a bit limited through that letter box sized hatch.

There's also a restored two-door Range Rover Classic on the JLR stand which is definitely the sort of thing we like, but as it's on the wrong wheels Garlick has refused to take a photo...

This and the Sport quattro concept and I'd be happy.

In fact this is the biggest automotive 'WANT' since the release of the DBS Volante.

Shamelessly blingy tonka toy. They'll sell by the bucket load.

I'm still not sure on these. Want to see one in the flesh before I make a final decision on it.

The first pic - a swollen Mini Cooper, travelling at the speed of sound.

But I quite like it. I don't know why though, I generally hate 4x4s. This looks sexy for some reason.

Ditto - not normally a fan of 4x4's and then I saw the LRX concept for this.

Thankfully JLR have generally stuck to the concept. As long as the pricing is keen it should sell loads.

Just too bling for me in the pictures. I'll wait until I see it in the metal though...

See that glass - that's a warning the driver will collide with something sooner rather than later (camera or no) and drive your premiums up.

I like this. I'd consider buying one. Only isn't the basic starting price £40k+ ?

If they price it comparable with the Audi Q5, then they might get a sale from me.

Not decided yet...but red one with 5 doors looks decent enough.

Me likey.

Starting price for base spec engine (148bhp diseasle I think) is circa £30k
Add a decent engine (180-ish bhp diseasle or 237 Ford Petrol lump) top trim spec, auto box, 4wd and all the trimmings and you'll be nudging early £40's, easy.

It must be like travelling in a prison van, no windows. It may suit Bling society but it's ugly beyond belief. rolleyes

It has a full length glass roof (Not sure if its standard or an option) so it's pretty light inside.

Blimey, who is taking the pics on the PH Paris tour? Is the camera as drunk on cognac and complimentary champagne as the cameraman?

I promise that if you take me next year I will stay sober and take some in-focus pictures.

I am a long time Range Rover fan and owned one of the first in existance as well as dozens of various Land Rovers Discos etc but this is a complete abortion. What is this obsesion with building ugly totally impractical and very expensive vehicles. All I can say is, you poor misguided people that want one, just wait a year and they will be VERY cheap (if they sell any in the first place).

I'll be having a drive in it in 3 weeks time.

Quite excited.

When you come down to a more civilised latitude, any chance of bringing one with you?

Very unlikely as they will be pre-production cars.

If you want to meet for a beer when i'm down i can tell you all about it.

With so little glass to look out of, it's the motoring equivalent of the burka.

It's a shame it didn't have a nicer derrière and a bit more outward visibility, as it'd be really rather nice. I'm sure it'll be great to drive, but I can't see it doing anything better than a freelander 2, aside of ferrying orange looking WAG types to nail bars.
