HGV driving lessons
Discussion
I may have the need to learn to drive an HGV for work. Its going to be a 4 axle flat-bed with hi-ab type lift on the rear.
What is the normal route to this from a car licence which currently only allows vans up to 3.5T (passed in 1997)
Also, how much is this likely to set me (or the company) back ?

Class C licence.
Allows you to drive up to 18T rigid.
Will take you a week of training with a test at the end, probably set you back about a grand. You'll probably also need to do your Hiab training seperately.
Thats incorrect , i have class 2 ,C or whatever it is now and can drive any rigid Allows you to drive up to 18T rigid.

He's not going to be able to get around the cpc test by doing the 35hrs of training I'm afraid, as he hasn't passed his test yet he will have to do the cpc test which is a ridiculous waste of time and cash. Had he got his license already and was looking to go back in to the industry he could have done the training.
If you can get work to pay though go for it! Mine put me through my pcv, I'd just like to find somewhere to do the same for HGV now!

Never had the need to drive anything bigger than 18T yet anyway, but i didn't know i could.
Cheers.
Up until a couple of weeks ago, I'd only driven 15 or 18 tonners, but then got shoved into a three-axle 26 tonner.Cheers.
Fun. Scary fun.
