HELP! In need of a car this weekend and have no idea!

I sold my Corsa last night after being ready to go out and buy a Saxo - now i'm not all that sure i want one

I have about £2,000 to spend - but could go upto £3,000 but would rather keep it under 2k!

I want nice warm hatch for an 18 year old to insure - i've just had a quote on a ClioSport and it was ridiculous so i cannot have that.

I have had good quotes on cars upto group 14 insurance. The Corsa was a 1.8 so i don't want anything slower please..


I might go for a sensible diesel, i do do 300miles a week which is a lot on an apprentice wage!

Sorry for another "What car" thread but i am in dire straits!

Can anyone suggest something i can pick up that fits all the criterior?

2000-2002 shape Fiesta Zetec-S. Not the quickest car (VTS will show it a clean pair of heels), but SO much fun to drive.

I've always been decidely unimpressed with Saxos of both the VTR and VTS kind. Horrid little rot-boxes IMHO.

I can afford the insurance though, its less than a VTS.

Bit rolly standard height, i can speak from experience of a C2 VTS that the handling is spot on, bit safer than my 106's but still fun as hell!

Be careful at this point.

You have the money burning a hole in your pocket and all sorts of ideas running round your head (or being suggested in this thread), and you seem to be in an awful hurry to get something bought.

Your best bet would be to see if mum and dad would put you on their insurance to drive their car for a while, and take your time finding the right car... If you rush into buying something FOR THIS WEEKEND you'll probably wind up missing that Corsa more than you realise.

Instead of looking for something 'warm hatch'ish - why dont you think about something a bit 'different' which may not set the world on fire performance wise, but maybe offer a bit more satisfaction all round?







I dont know what to suggest however, thinking along the lines of a mini (oldstyle), classic car, something that you'll enjoy driving regardless of performance etc.

Or, stick to your guns and find a mint saxo and fulfill the initial criteria

Why not try an MX5?

Will you be able to insure a 3 door focus 1.6? If so I'd go for one of them.

Pretty perfect advice that fella - i did ask the rents last night if i could put my policy onto there car - it was met with a quick no lol
