BUS LANES AND LANE DISCIPLINE

I wonder how many of us really know what all the markings on the road mean and if we actually take any notice of them.
In this picture you see a bus lane starting at top right corner and going down in direction, there is a car lane to the outside right of the bus lane. At the end of the bus lane it goes from a 2 lane road into 1 lane with an arrow pointing inwards from the car lane. Lets say the road was busy with lots of traffic. If you were driving a car in the outside lane and met a bus at the end of the bus lane, would you?
A - slow down and merge in turn
B - force your way in as you have right of way

My view of that is that you in the car on the outside have run out of road and have to either zipper in (as I think they call it) if the bus lets you or wait for a space.
It's an awful piece of road management there IMHO to squeeze two bus lanes into a space that doesn't really accommodate them. That tells me that the car driver has to give way.

what about all the eejits who wont drive in the bus lane even when the hours of the bus lane mean that its available to use (and a lot of you will fall in this catagory).
I drive all round the uk and people seem to be most terrified of bus lanes in edinburgh, they just wont ever go in them! Ideal for making progress though its a nice clear lane to pass them all!

Same here, happens all the time in London, and you get some really evil looks from folks thinking your breaking the law.I drive all round the uk and people seem to be most terrified of bus lanes in edinburgh, they just wont ever go in them! Anyway, wasn't there a specific Highway Code rule introduced saying you had to give way to buses? I say let the bus go and tuck in behind.

Is there really somethng in the Highway Code about giving way to buses? I must say I have a rule that, if they are waiting patiently with their indicator on, I let buses out. If (as is normal in Carlisle) they simply try to force their way out when you are already halfway alongside I make a point of not letting them go - driving a bus does not make you the owner of the road.

I don't think it says anything like that in the HC.I tend to let buses out now as I had some very near misses when I was 17.
I would say that you'd give way to traffic in the left hand lane. The way the roads designed would make it so if you were parallel with a bus, you wouldn't be able to fit in there anyway.

Ah not like the bus lanes in Doncaster, which are never used regularly, even during peak times, but are not timed.I drive all round the uk and people seem to be most terrified of bus lanes in edinburgh, they just wont ever go in them! So even at midnight, if there is an inexplicable build up of traffic and no buses running, you cannot use it.
Great plan.
