Just had a nuts idea.

Got a car worth around 2-3k. Worth about 3x that in Australia.

Forgetting the logistics, what would stop me selling it over there for far more.

Over in OZ for Xmas. Had a strange idea to ship it over for a couple of grand, use it drive all round the country and sell it on before heading back.

Is this as stupid as it sounds? silly

I'm willing to bet it's harder than it sounds, but it could make for an awesome road trip, arrive somewhere daft and drive.

Will it pass the roadworthy (MOT)? What'll the import duty be? Other taxes? Who will you leave it with if you can't sell it? Where will you register it?

Just a few.

As I understand it the reason that many cars in Oz are so expensive is because of ridiculous import duties, which I assume you'd have to pay if you were to ship and register a car over there.

Looks like my idea is not what it is cracked up to be!
