My OH has had an accident in her car this morning - she is fine (thank god) but by the sound of things her car is likely to be written off. She has her own insurance policy for her car and she has notified her insurers about the accident.

She is also a named driver on my policy for my car, so I was wondering whether I need to inform my insurers that she has had a crash even though it was in a different vehicle on a different policy.

Any advice the PH experts could give would be much appreciated. smile

Up to you really, but claims history of named drivers is always asked for UK motor policies.

You could wait till renewal before updating them, safe thing is to do it now. this is a material change to the basis which insurance was offered, so you are obliged to tell your insurer.

If she writes your car off, and they investigate her claims history and find she's suffered a loss which was undeclared (even though it's mid policy) they have grounds to remove cover. This is all theoretical and needs to be tested case by case, up to you if you want to take the risk.

I thought that might be the case - once I know for sure what's happening with her car I'll get on to my insurers.

Thanks for your help. smile
