Am I still a petrol head?

My car history so far (I am 26 now):

03 1.0 corsa active
05 Seat Leon FR TDI remap
56 Seat Ibiza Cupra TDI Remap, FMIC running 210bhp
58 Honda civic type r
06 BMW Z4 3.0si
06 Vauxall Astra 1.9 CDTI SRI

Sold the beemer due to getting a mortgage and doing hell of alot more miles for work. The astra started playing up so decided to chop it in for a brand new Toyota Aygo. I have always had a soft spot for small funky cars. Ye its slow but 60+mpg, dirt cheap insurance, 20 quid tax and just really cheap day to day. I have had it 3 months now and so far I am quite impressed, quite nippy and even sounds good from the 3 pot.

Am I still a petrol head? I no an aygo isnt very PH but its fun.

Yes, because I think being a petrolhead is just about being interesting in cars, I don't think it's about what's on your driveway (even if you do have a front wheel drive diesel Vauxhall!).

Do you still love cars, and lust after something faster, better and sexier? Can you reel off the engine capacity, number of cylinders, power output, 0-60 or top speed of a variety of performance cars? Are you still an intolerable car-bore?

If yes, then you're still a petrol head.

I've driven an Aygo as a hire car and I liked it even if I did make fun of it.

There are plenty of people driving expensive sports cars who are not petrolheads, just rich.

I personally think that when your prime consideration regarding the car you drive is "economy" then you're buying transport and not something to enjoy. However, if you're doing that to get ahead so that one day you can buy the car of your dreams (or even one tempered by the expected available finances) then you're still a petrolhead.

What I mean is, your current car might not be a petrolhead car, no matter how you use it, but it doesn't mean you've no long term plans/dreams.

Being a petrolhead is simply a state of mind, do you feel like one, does the car you own really define how you feel inside when a V8 burbles past?

If you can drive that little one with the best of them and still get excited by serious metal then hell yeah.

Im thinking of doing the same, getting rid of a signum diesel and replacing it with an Aygo purely for the mpg returns and running costs.

I however will supplement my speed fix with my bikes and carrying on going sideays in the MX5.
