ste handlers - Nearly all the cars crashing are rear engined RWD - That said I'd love a little NSU TTScloud9

I think the general message from this vid is to never take a 70s rear engined car to the ring! Especially the Beetle!

its funny how unstable they were even at what looks like really low speeds!

70's crashes is a misleading title as these cars are really old, 60's cars filmed in 1970

The Beetle really does have the worst rear suspension design in the history of the universe, you can see the way the wheels tuck in when the car is on its side, no wonder they all crash on that corner.

I was wondering why so many of them had windows smash on landing after a roll, or going onto two wheels, then I realised it's always the LHS front side window and they break because the drivers head goes through them!

st! That is one hell of a roll, looked like it was going to do a couple of gentle roll's then takes off!

That Children is most certainly why we have roll cages!

As for the original 60/70's cars, some very lucky escapes, especially the guy at 1:50 who fell out!

Worrying how the doors came open on most of them!

If you've driven an old beetle you'd know it comes with the bail out option.

Highly effective in moments of panic. biggrin

3.20 is rather worrying

I like to think that guy fell out of his Beetle at every corner, and that's why he's so casual about getting up and carrying on.

I think anti-burst door locks didn't come in until 1966 on Beetles.

The video shows how the later cars with wider track and softer rear suspension are much more stable, although just decambering the rear is very effective too - see the Renault 8 Gordini for details

Would've been nasty if that Beetle Cabrio had of gone over at 3:22.
