So my bike broke down this morning,

I always seem to choose the best places

Narrow road, check

Slippery, check

Steep hill, check

Yes you massive , beep me, as I often take my half ton of Honda out for a nice push in the morning.

How I laughed by the time I had pushed it a mile or so back to my house frown

Previous breakdown highlights include, section of M25 with no hard shoulder, twice on the elevated section of A4 in London, deep in rural france, and the euro shuttle.

My Astra has been wholly reliable. Until, the EGR valve connector snapped (WTF?) on the way onto a ferry. This caused a total electronic shutdown.

Time: 01:30. Kick off in Hamburg 19:30.

The AA were stunning though and we only lost an hour, despite having to get the car to a garage and get a hire car.

Christ that's a nightmare, I too have had the pleasure of pushing a bike too far, in leathers and a jacket, uncomfortable and a royal PITA.
I once pushed an RD250 from West Norwood to Streatham Vale to get it repaired!

Your name is quite apt.

Why the overreaction to the beep? It appears it was actually used as designres intended for once.
He was just letting you know he was there, rather than pointing out that he was somehow inconvenienced by your breaking down.

Took the censored abit running the 205 very low on petrol.

It fuel starved itself in protest on a steep junction with heavy traffic behind.

Lots of beeping and swearing followed!

In that case he was too dumb to hold a dirvers licence in the first place. It was obviously a breakdwon...
Then again I did get told be the plod once, to move my car when i broke down on the side of a 4 lane junction with the car leaking fluids and steaming from under the bonnet and hazards on...
due to the road configuartion, moving from where I broke down would mean crossing 3 lanes...

Oh well, sorry if I seemed to harsh mate

A few years back I hit a pothole in my Porsche on the A82 near Loch Lomond. It popped BOTH tyres on the nearside so I was stuck. The road was narrow and it certainly caused a problem for people needing to get past - but there was nothing I could do. The car wasn't driveable.

Interesting how people reacted.

A small minority offered to tow the car - I couldn't accept without ruining two wheels - but the offer was kind.

Most people ignored us.

A minority of utter s shouted, swore, made rude hand gestures, showed no sympathy whatsoever. I expect this was made worse by the bright red Porscheness of the broken down car. Their rudeness reduced my wife to tears.

An AA Guy stopped behind us put his flashing lights on and stayed with us until the RAC came to recover my car to a garage. What a top bloke. My Mrs was practically in tears and he was jovial and kind and cheered us up.

There's all sorts but some people are s and some people are ace. Always worth remembering, that.

Whenever I see a car with hazards on and bonnet up in a slightly awkward position, I always say "What a stupid place to break down."

A good number of years ago I came off my pushbike at fairly high speed. The chain had come off and jammed the rear wheel. Cue me going base over apex and slowing myself down with the LHS of my body, mainly my left shoulder.

The bike was lying bent in the road and I was rolling around the verge clutching my shoulder from which blood was gushing at quite an alarming rate.

A motorist kindly stopped at the scene, rolled his window down and shouted at me to, "Get the fvcking bike off the road!", after which the drove off.

I wish I had been of a frame of mind to react in a suitable way, but I was in absolute agony. I hope he's died in a fire since!

Cars and bikes seem to do this - I had a car go on me on an up hill section of autostrada outside Rome once - not only was it up hill, I was surrounded by trucks and in a tunnel with no hard shoulder! - Managed to limp it through the tunnel much to the annoyance of the trucks behind me forced to slow right down to about 30mph - not good for a fully laiden HGV going up a steep hill!

Vaporiser on the carb had cocked up - couple of heavy smacks with a screw driver handle (all I had at the time) saw the bh start working again!

Friend of mine and I were driving home along there and his car dropped a valve. Completely fked it, with no tow rope. Was about 4am.

Called the police, as people weren't paying attention to the car with hazards on and swerving and nearly smashing into it. 50mins later they show up, and lecture my friend for stopping in a stupid place.

The engine has grenaded, metal bits are coming out the exhaust, you think we VOLUNTARILY stopped here?!

They wouldn't listen and told him he was stupid for stopping there.

fking stupid WPC.

Broke down in the middle lane of what was then the M63 in rush hour. What's worse is the car wasn't equipped with emergency flashers. That was fun for about 15 minutes with people trying drive round me; beeping shouting and gesticulating. Then the police turned up en masse. A Range Rover to tow me to the hard shoulder and a Senator to stop traffic in the inside lane.

All sorted very efficiently apart from the guy who cut round the Senator and tried to drive into the side of the Range Rover while he was towing me. The police were far more interested in giving him a bking than ascertaining how I had managed cause chaos in rush hour traffic. I got a mention on the traffic bulletin of the local radio station biggrin

The Blackwall Tunnel appears to be a popular choice. I know a girl who had an auto box die in a Ford Scorpio in there, in rush hour - Because she was blocking the left lane, they couldn't get a tow truck to her past all the stationary trucks. Their advice on the emergency phone was to push it in front of the flowing traffic in the right lane to let all the trucks go!

A passing van with a rope pulled the car out for her in the end.

Me too. I usually ram them. That'll teach them for breaking down and costing me time.
